Prologue
A loud crash noise sounded through the empty halls, followed by a pained groan. Two more crashes followed that and the sound of boys laughing was heard. There were four boys. Two were laughing while one shoved the other aggressively against a locker.
"What are you doing out of class?" the attacking guy asked mockingly.
The boy being shoved against the locked winced from the pain but glared defiantly at the guy, I don't see how that's any of your business, Gabriel."
Gabriel scowled and shoved harder, "Listen here Gremnier, you don't sass me or you get hurt. Second, this is my hallway, making it my business."
One of the other guys snickered, "Apollo is such an idiot, we should give him the Thursday special."
Apollo's eyes widened slightly and started thinking of excuses to tell his parents for the bruises he'd later have, but he couldn't think of anything.
Gabriel smiled, "Good idea Ty, now you and Kid get over here."
The two went over and Gabriel pushed Apollo towards them. Kid caught him and Ty drew back a fist, nailing Apollo in the cheek. He flinched but didn't make a sound. Gabriel kicked him in the gut and Kid shoved him to the floor. Apollo coughed, winded from the kick. Ty nailed another kick to his spine and Gabriel punched his side.
"Stop..." Apollo tried to say. It was no use, they continued to hit him.
"Hey! What the hell are you three idiots doing?!" an irritated female voice growled.
Gabriel looked up and smirked, "About to hit a girl for interrupting the Thursday special."
Kid looked over as well, "Oh, hey Rain, come to watch?"
Apollo moved his head slowly, blood trickling down his lip. Rain looked at his injuries and frowned.
"Gabriel, haven't I told you what I'd do if I caught you doing something like this?" she asked icily.
"What could you do?" he mocked.
Rain stomped over, the click of her heels sounding loudly. She got right up in his face, "Don't start with me Paisly.
"Oh I'm sorry, Princess." he smirked.
Rain's face reddened, "Don't call me that."
"What? Is the perfect wittle princess going to get mad?"
She shuddered in anger and punched him square in the nose. He fell back, landing on Kid, "Do not mess with me." she growled.
Gabriel held his nose but Rain saw the blood running down from it. He looked like he was thinking but before he could do anything, Kid and Ty were running towards her. Ty caught her arms, pinning them behind her while Kid looked ready to hit her. Apollo saw this through his now blurry vision.
"Don't..." He stopped in a cough. The attempt was unnecessary, Rain had kicked a leg, landing a hit to Kid's gut. Kid grunted in pain and then fell when Rain kicked him harder in the side. To Ty, she stomped on his foot, then elbowed his stomach. She stepped over to Apollo when she got free and glared at the three of them. Gabriel glared back but got up and walked away. Kid and Ty scurried after. She looked down at Apollo and then kneeled down to his side.
"Are you alright?" she asked, trying to wipe some of the blood away. She looked into his half closed gold eyes as they focused on her.
"I'm...fine." he said, seeing two big gray eyes when his vision ca,e back. He tried to get up and winced as he only got to sitting position.
"No, you're not fine." Rain argued, "Come on, I'll take you home."
"I don't need you too." he said firmly.
Rain fixed a stubborn gaze on him, "I wasn't asking your permission."
He stared back just as stubbornly. After a moment of staring into her eyes that now seemed more green, he gave in, "Fine."
She smiled, though it was more of a smirk, and it seemed unfitting on her soft features. Her face was narrow and delicate with a pale complexion. Her black hair fell to her eyes and longer than his current vision could see.
He started to stand and she helped him. She was a bit taller than him but he didn't mind, he was too in pain. They walked slowly, but made it out of school and without being seen by teachers surprisingly. He wondered how they were able to just leave like that, then he wondered how she was going to get him home, he lived a good fifteen minutes away, by walking. They got to the parking lot and then reached a black car that looked rather dirty. His eyes widened.
"You drive?" he questioned.
She looked distractedly at her car, "Huh? Oh, yeah, I drive." she led him to the passenger side then went and got into the driver side. She glanced around before starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot.
"You're not sixteen?" Apollo asked.
"Not sixteen." Rain replied.
"No license?"
"No license."
"Eighth grader?"
"Yep."
"I am too..." He paused, "We're doing this illegally."
"Correct."
"Why?"
"My dad works all the time. I don't have transportation and I can't walk everywhere. As long as I don't get pulled over, I'm fine."
Apollo watched her drive. She seemed to know what she was doing, she wasn't speeding, her turns weren't jerky. She must've been driving for awhile.
"Where am I going?" she asked.
"Oh," he looked out the window to see where they were, "Take a left here." As she did he spoke again, "Now just keep going straight."
"I hope you're not angry." Rain said quietly.
"For what?"
She stared out at the street, feeling troubled, "I fought Gabriel for you...aren't you angry?"
He thought for a moment. Yes, his pride had been killed, but he wasn't angry. She helped him when he knew he wouldn't be able to help himself, "No, I'm not mad."
Rain smiled a bit, "So what did you do to get on Gabriel's bad side?"
"I came to school." Apollo said, grimacing.
She chuckled, "Yeah, me and Gabe go way back. I used to throw fruit snacks at him in Elementary school."
"How did you learn to fight like that?"
"Ancient chinese secrets." she laughed.
He smiled, though still curious, "Take a left up a that light."
Rain looked at the winding street she turned on to. "I trick or treat up here on Halloweens."
"I haven't lived here long. I moved here last year."[/color he said.
"I've lived here...most of my life." she said in a guarded tone.
"House on the corner is mine." he said.
She pulled over to the curb, "Parents home?"
Apollo looked at the empty driveway, "Probably not."
She turned off the car and got out, helping Apollo out as well, "Then lets get you inside."
They got to the door and he unlocked it, "I got it from here."
She nodded, "Alright." She looked at the dried blood on his face and the purple that was starting to show on his cheek and around one of his golden eyes. His green hair was messy and matted, he pretty much looked terrible. "Try to keep yourself together."
Apollo nodded, "I'll try."
She turned to walk away but looked back, "I'm Rain."
"I heard, I'm Apollo." He smiled.
She smiled back, "I heard."
