Name: Setsuna Oshima
Age: 26
Alliance: Neutral
Home Town: Domino City
Occupation: Traveller
Deck Type: -tbc-
Appearance:
Personality: Setsuna is probably the most open person you will ever meet. She is blunt, open and has a profoundly spiral sense of thinking. With a large amount of wit and a very vivid personality, she is the sort of person who comes across as both very relaxed, and intensely hedonistic. The hedonism mostly comes from her extremely nonchalant attitude towards relationships and the fact she spent about 2 years embroiled with someone very much like herself, which only amplified her own hedonistic tendencies.
As a Teenager, Setsuna was shy, withdrawn and silent, however, in the ten years or so since then, she has matured to be quite the opposite. As an Adult she may still be a little shy, however she is much more outgoing and adventurous then one would have though if one had known her as in her youth. She now possesses a distinct wellspring of confidence and energy from which she can draw from at will, and has a distinct lack of anything resembling morals. Although her *ahem* rampancy has been somewhat reduced now that she has become an adult, this is probably more due to the fact that its considered rape rather then fun, and you end up getting jail time rather then ridiculed.
To describe her as a Woman would perhaps be a little too far. Although physically she had expanded quite a bit, much to her delight, as she was always the short and flat one when she was at Duel Academy, now she much … filled out, so to speak, however, mentally she can still be very immature and playful, which can at times make it very hard to tell whether or not she is actually being serious with you, or is just playing around.
However, Setsuna is not without her scars. Her premature birth and her diagnosis with leukemia at an early age were just a few of her problems. The prior left her pumped so full of calcium she had a head like concrete, which is not so bad, but the latter … was a little more traumatic. The potent cocktail of chemo-therapeutic she received, along with a small amount of Radiotherpay, had drastic side-effects for her early physical health, and, as can happen, there were a few long-term effects as well. One of these was, unfortunately, Infertility. Now, of course, it is hard to imagine the sort of effect that being told you can never have children can have upon a young girl. In this case, it caused Setsuna to eschew quite a few childhood habits which would normally be associated with little girls: Playing with baby dolls could be a major example, so could her distinct dislike of babies or anything to do with them. There are other psychological symptoms as well, however they do not need to be mention here, since some of them are thoroughly unpleasant.
History: Setsuna Oshima, born Setsuna Kiaora, was not exactly what you might call an average child from the start.
First of all, she was early, specifically, 8 weeks, 3 days and 2 hours early. Now, of course, considering the level of medicine at the time, premature birth was not considered much of an obstacle, however, being born that prematurely still carries a higher percentage of casualties then normal, but Setsuna was a fighter, no doubt about it. She was not going to die before she even had a chance to live, no way!
She was out of Hospital by the beginning of November … which is not so bad, considering she was born in July and was supposed to be born in the middle of October.
When she was 2 she was diagnosed with, and at 3 treated for, juvenile mylomonocytic lukemia, which, among other things, had her taking penicillin every day until she hit 18, and no child likes taking pills. To be perfectly honest, it was hell, in her opinion at any rate, however she put it up with, mostly because she probably would have died without it.
Her later childhood right up until she was about 8, was spend very much withdrawn from the social circles of people her own age, mostly because she was mildly anemic and keeled over when she did too much exercise, however that was not necessarily a bad thing, because that was when she met her knight-in-shining-armor, so to speak.
It was the normal sort of scenario for PE, she pushed herself to hard and fainted dead to the world, of course, she as in mid-stride so she tripped and pretty much fell down a hill, which is not exactly the most pleasant way to spend an afternoon, even if you have no recollection of it. She was, however, rescued by one of her classmates, Kalico Oshima, the “technically older then you if you had been born when you were supposed to be born” sort of person, or at least, that was how Setsuna saw her, but that soon changed.
Within a few hours they were sitting next to each other at lunch, within a day they were sharing a deck, within a week they were walking home together. It was one of those friendships which just clicked together just right, two little girls which just happen to get along just right. That was how it began.
Essentially, they grew up together. They enjoyed the same things, mostly had the same problems, and generally enjoyed each others company. Kalico was polite, endeavoring and very cute, whereas Setsuna was a little blunter, a tad lazier and generally very pretty.
When they were both 14, they were, like many children of their Generation, sent off to the world-acclaimed duel Academy. Although Setsuna’s parents were very against this, the fact that Kalico was going to be their with their daughter was both a relief, and some what of an apprehension, they were beginning to have the feeling that there was something more then friendship between the two of them, but they put that at the back of their minds and sent them together anyway.
To say Setsuna would have made an excellent student is … an overstatement of her commitment to mainstream education, to say the least. Rather, she seemed to be one of those people who are willing to stick with mediocrity and say that they are doing their best when really they are not, since no one is going to push them that far anyway. This perhaps explains that, despite her dueling skills, she remained in Ra Yellow for her entire time at Duel Academy, although that may have had something to do with here wanting to stay with Kalico.
During their time at Duel Academy the pair became something of an … item I suppose the phrase might be, and there was the usual insinuations, confrontations and conversations as usually occurs when such a relationship is normally brought to light, although if anything specific can be brought to light, its that front teeth tend not to grow back once you punch them out of someone’s mouth, a point which Kalico was more then happen to prove to anyone who really felt their relationship was so much against nature that they said it to her face ... which was on more then one occasion I can tell you.
Unlike her studious girlfriend, Setsuna was a little more … I suppose the phrase might be ‘mad’, for she developed a great interest in the Occult and other such mysticisms whilst at Duel Academy. It was this which would, after her graduation, lead her to study Ancient Runes at Domino University.
Speaking of Graduation, the four or so years spent at Duel Academy few by, although Setsuna almost had to repeat a year, of which she was saved by Kalico dragging her away from a copy of Liber AL vel Legis and sitting on her until she would study. Kalico herself graduated with distinction, and even Setsuna managed to surpass moderation, for once, the only question which remained now was: What to do next?
I suppose things work out almost similarly to the plot of a romance novel from now on: Pair of young lovers stall for time and attempt to hide their relationship from their parents until one of the two, in this case Setsuna, eventually reaches 18 so they are both legally able to get married … well, a Civil-Partnership actually, but it equates to something similar, so that they can both run off together and start a new life.
Well … to be honest, I suppose you could say that is exactly what happened. With almost six months until Setsuna’s 18th, Kalico did what she did best, be her confident, prepared and planning-ahead self and went and got a job, as for Setsuna … she went and did the same, although she perhaps did not work as many hours or as hard as Kalico did, the fact that she did anything, especially when she was generally considered a Lazybones at that age, was really quite a surprise for everyone, Kalico included, although to be honest … how hard can it get to stack bookshelves compared to being a waitress?
And that was when they moved in together. And that was also when the trouble started.
In total, they spent about 2 years together, a blissful sort of existence I suppose you could say. They spent their days working, and their evenings in each others arms, however, obviously, this is the sort of lifestyle which can only last for so long, before they started getting sick of each other … well .. perhaps sick is not exactly the phrase, but people can only live in close proximity to someone with a certain level of intimacy before they eventually get sick of the sight of each other. This is normally when people would break up … but this is two extremely strong willed, distinct and very much in love women you’re talking about here … so it sort of developed into a sword-fight … which got the police involved … and left Setsuna with a scar on her ribs where she almost got herself cut in half.
So they went on a break … a long break.
Maybe they needed it, correction, they DID need, although neither of them really expected it to turn into years … 6 years.
It was within those 6 years that Setsuna finally got to experience the world for herself. She went to Domino University, and did a short Degree in Ancient Runes, before she decided that she would go traveling. Perhaps the first major decision she had ever actually made for herself.
What happened in this four years mostly remains a mystery to anyone apart from Setsuna herself, only that, when she came back, not even Kalico would be able to pick her out of a crowd. She cut and died her hair, changed her eye color, and was more on the whole a different person then the cute little girl of whom she had been 8 years before.
In her own words, and very unlike her indeed, she had ‘been studying’, however it was much more then that, she had become … well, technically there is no real definition or title for it, but it was somewhere between a Magus and an Onmyōji. Setsuna Oshima had been learning Magic, so to speak.
Specializing in the Runes and the manipulation of Space, Setsuna had found herself a purpose, because now she could ‘see’ ... so to speak. She could see the cracks in the dimensions, the stresses of four different dimensions being pushed together, merging into one. She was perhaps one of the few people who could fix the problem, although it would take a long time, especially for one woman, however, among other things, Setsuna is a patient woman … sort of, however she is quite happy to devote the rest of her life to this purpose, something greater then herself … which is VERY unlike her indeed.
